Uh-Oh! How the Weather Will Affect Your Move

Weather is one of the most variable things throughout your move and it can change at the drop of a dime. Being prepared and knowing how to handle different weather situations can help you overcome stress and anxiety that may follow.

Below, we will go over some tips to help you move no matter the weather conditions and you will feel confident making your move instead of postponing it.

Sprinkling or Raining Lightly

If it is sprinkling or drizzling, then you do not have to worry as much, but you still need to protect your items. You should use heavy cardboard boxes as they will not give in when water gets on them.

You need to make certain you do not place any electronics outside and when you do need to move your electronic items, wrap them with heavy blankets to prevent moisture.

You will want to make sure you wear shoes with grips on them so that you do not go sliding around down the sidewalk.

Heavy Rain

If you are worried about the heavy rain, you may want to reschedule your move, but you do not have to.

The first thing you want to do is park your moving truck as close to your front door as possible to minimize how long your items are in the rain for.

You should always use protective sheets of plastic around your electronic items and then wrap them heavily in blankets and other soft items.

You should utilize as many waterproof sheets and tarps as you can to ensure your furniture is safe as well.

Be careful of wet spots and place towel and mats on the floor throughout your home. Also, wear rain boots or shoes with a lot of grip.

Snow

If it is snowing, you will want to make sure that you clear a walkway on your sidewalk so that you can maneuver around without slipping. You may want to park the moving truck near your front door as well.

Make sure you dress in coats and have boots with grips on them to help you move around. You should never place items on the ground and if you must, always lay a thick piece of cardboard down. Cover all items with blankets as well.

If you are getting ready to move in any of the above conditions, take your time and always put your safety first. Ideally, you want to move when it is sunny, but it does not always work out that way. If you must, consider rescheduling your move until the conditions are safer.
