When it comes time to place some of your most valuable items in a storage unit, you want to know that you are choosing the right one. It can be difficult to find a quality facility, if you do not know what you should be looking for in the first place.
As you go on your hunt for a storage unit, consider the following tips to help you locate and decide whether you have chosen the right one.
- How Secure Are the Units?
You want to know that your items are protected with more than just the lock you place on the exterior of your unit. Look around and ask the facility how secure the doors and premises are.
Some storage facilities offer a gated entrance that requires a code along with a fence around the perimeter. Find out whether there is a security company that watches guard overnight or if there are security cameras.
Lastly, consider whether there are alarms on any of the units or how a situation is handled when something does happen and there is a security breach.
- How Convenient is the Unit?
This is a two-part question to consider. First, you want the location of the storage unit to be in an easily accessible place so that you can get to your belongings when you need them. A unit 45 minutes across town is not as convenient as one five minutes down the road.
The second part to consider is whether the facility provides 24-hour access to your unit or not. If the facility is only open during business hours, you may find yourself taking time off work to get there, which would not be an advantage for you.
- How Many Units are Available? Types and Sizes?
When checking out a facility, find out how many units are available and what sizes and types are offered. For instance, is there an option for climate-controlled units? Does the facility have large units or only small units?
- Does the Premises Provide Pest Control?
If your items are not stored in a climate-controlled area, pests are a possibility, especially as the seasons change. When searching for a facility, check to make sure it is clean and that they spray regularly to prevent pests.
When searching for the perfect unit for your items, consider the above questions and make sure that you are happy with the quality of the facility. Your items are valuable to you and you need to take the steps needed to ensure their safety as well.
