Packing up and moving your home is no simple task. But, if you have the right supplies on hand, you will find that packing and moving your items is much easier than you initially thought. Below, we will go over some of the must-have items you need for packing and moving.
- Boxes or Plastic Totes
You are definitely going to need some boxes or plastic totes to move your items because without these items, you will not get far. Boxes are ideal for most residential moves and can either be purchased at your local moving truck rental store or home improvement store. Often, you can even find cardboard boxes for free by simply asking stores if you can have the extras once they have unloaded their products from them.
While cardboard boxes usually do the trick, plastic totes are the best option for any move. This is because they are more durable than cardboard and they help to protect your items. You can stack the totes and they keep moisture out in case you plan to store any of your items.
- Tape, Labels, and Markers
Next, you are going to need tape to secure your cardboard boxes. Even if the boxes come tapped at the bottom, you want to make sure you add another layer of tape to help provide a secure bottom. The last thing you want is the bottom to fall out when you are walking.
You should have some labels on hand and markers to write on the boxes. It is important whether you use boxes or totes to label them and write down what is inside. Knowing what is inside of each box or tote will help you unload quickly.
- Dollies
You need to make sure that you have a variety of dollies on hand to assist you when you move. There are different dollies for each job including furniture dollies, hard dollies, appliance dollies, and more. Choose the types you need and rent them from your local home improvement store, as they will help you move heavier items.
- Tie Downs and Rope
What happens if you do not secure your furniture or items within your moving truck or on the dolly? That is right – it will fall and break. You need to make sure you have some rope and tie downs to be able to secure all of your items both within and outside of the truck.
- Proper Shoes and Clothes
Your move will not go well unless you are prepared with the proper shoes and clothes. On move day, you need to make sure that you have shoes with grip and a good amount of tread to help prevent slipping and sliding when you climb stairs and move furniture. Your clothes should be loose fitting, but not too loose to get in the way.
To ensure a smooth day of packing and moving, make sure you pick up the supplies you need and have them on hand at all times. Don’t forget to purchase protection for inside of the boxes you pack!
