Moving to a new state is the start of a new chapter in your life and you are about to begin making new memories. If you have never moved out of state before, you may be confused and overwhelmed by all of the decisions and steps you need to take.
Before you become frazzled by everything going on, this guide will help keep you on track and remind you of some of the things you need to do before, during, and after your move.
Before the Move
Before you actually move to a new state, you should visit the state first to ensure that you like the atmosphere and you are happy with your surroundings. Once you decide you do like the state, start looking around for some employment opportunities and housing. It is possible to secure employment and housing before you officially move.
Gather all of the information you need about the requirements to move, how much it is going to cost you to move, and then begin saving for the big day.
As your moving day approaches, start calling movers to get prices and start scheduling items to be accomplished. For instance, if you know you will be moving into your new place on the 5th of the month, then make sure your power will be turned on in the new place by then and off in the old place.
During Your Move
In the days leading up to the big move, you will want to wrap up packing any of your items. It would be beneficial to write on the boxes to keep them organized. Once the moving company arrives, you can direct them to the items you need moved.
Gather all of the items you need from toiletries, to the dog’s bowls, and medication, and place them in your vehicle. You do not want to leave these items behind. As the movers start clearing out the home, take a walk around and make sure you grabbed everything.
You can now head to the car and start making your move.
After Your Move
Once you get to your new home, you can begin cancelling old accounts and searching for new doctors, schools, dentists, and the like. You can start unpacking and putting your life together in a new home.
Moving in between states takes a lot of planning and it cannot just be done in one weekend. Take time to make the move and you will be much happier with where you end up.
