Your Guide to Packing and Moving with Pets

If you have pets, moving to a new home just got a lot more complicated. Your pets may not be keen to the idea of moving and you need to make sure that you have everything under control so that you can focus on the move and your pets at the same time.

In this guide, we will go over some tips to help you pack and move with your pets by your side.

1. Packing Your Pet’s Items

When it comes time to pack your pet’s items, make sure that you set aside a food bowl, water bowl, and chew toy for your pet. Everything else can be packed away, but your pet still needs to eat and drink while you are packing and living the remaining days in your home.

2. Grab Your Pet’s Vet Records

Before you begin your move, you will need to make sure that you grab your pet’s vaccination records from your vet’s office. Some places require that you have this information before they will allow you to live there or even enter the state.

3. Purchase a Crate

If you are taking your dog or cat in the car with you, you will need to have a safe place for them to relax. A metal pet crate is the best option and can fit in the back of most vehicles. Inside of the crate, you should have a comfortable mattress for your pet to lie on.

4. Medications

If your pet is on any medications, make sure to keep them on hand. If there are any delays in your move, you do not want your pet to be without them. You can keep these items in the glove box of your vehicle or in a small bag that will be going in the car with you.

5. Consider Boarding

If you are moving within your city or a couple cities over, you may want to board your pet during the move. This will help keep your pet calm and you can move around freely without having to worry about your pet escaping from your home.

6. Pet Food and Water

Once you do hit the road, make sure that you have pet food and water on hand, so that your pet can eat and drink as necessary.

Packing and moving with your pets can be fun, but it can be frustrating if you do not plan properly. It is essential that you take the time to plan everything out so that you grab everything you need and everything your pets need too.
